Questions we get asked

Most of what people write to us about is size, leather and strap length. Here are those answers in one place.

Are the measurements on this site the ones I will get?

Yes. Every card carries a length, a width and a height taken off the finished bag, and the same three numbers drive the fit page. We round to a tenth of an inch and nothing else. If a bag comes in two sizes we give each one its own page rather than printing a range and letting you guess which half you are buying.

What is the difference between full-grain and top-layer cowhide?

Both are the outer part of the hide. Full-grain keeps the surface as it came off the animal, marks and all, and darkens as it is used. Top-layer has had the very top sanded and finished, which evens out the colour and makes it behave more predictably. We cut in both and say which is which on the card.

Will a 13-inch laptop go in?

In 38 of our 152 bags it will. The fit page has a box for it, and ticking it narrows the catalogue to those bags in one click. The rule we use is a body at least 12.5 inches long and 9.2 inches tall, which is the machine plus the room a sleeve needs.

How do I choose a strap length?

Look at the drop rather than the total length. A strap given end to end has to be halved before it means anything; where we know the drop we print it, and where the strap adjusts we print both ends of the range. Below the hip is a crossbody, at the hip is what most of ours do, at the waist is a short shoulder carry.

Does the leather smell?

A new hide has a smell, and a bag that has been boxed for shipping has it more strongly. Leave it open in a dry room for a few days and it settles. We do not deodorise the leather, because what covers the smell also sits on the surface.

Who do I buy from?

The buy button on every card takes you to our listing at the retailer that stocks us. The order, the payment, the delivery and any return are handled entirely on their side under their own terms, and we never see your card details.

Is the price here the price I pay?

It is the price we last read from the listing, and listings move. Treat the number on our card as a guide and the number at checkout as the real one. If they differ by a lot, the listing changed after we wrote the page.

Can I see a bag before buying?

Not from us; there is no showroom to walk into. That is exactly why the measurements are on every card and why the fit page exists. Between the three numbers, the weight and the photograph, most of what a shelf would tell you is already here.

Anything about an order that has already been placed belongs with our retail partner — see buying, posting and sending back.
